The National Cycling Race for Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup, also known by its abbreviated name as the Television Cup or HTV Cup, is an annual sporting event organized by the Sports Division of Ho Chi Minh City Television. It typically begins in early April and concludes at exactly 11:30 AM on April 30th each year at the Independence Palace.
In 1988, the race launched with a 4-stage route: Ho Chi Minh City – Bao Loc – Da Lat – Ho Chi Minh City, with 15 teams participating. The race was subsequently recognized by the General Department of Sports and Physical Education as part of the national competition system. In 1993, for the first time, the race organized a cross-country journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, covering a total distance of 1,900 km and passing through 8 mountain passes. This is considered an extremely meaningful milestone in the development of the tournament — a source of pride for the Vietnamese people in the spirit of “One unified nation” expressed through sportsmanship.
The HTV Cup is regarded as the largest and most far-reaching cycling race in Vietnam. The race has become a sporting event deeply intertwined with significant political and historical meaning, commemorating the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, while also bringing the most beautiful images of Vietnam to audiences both at home and abroad.
